Washougal, a small town on the Washington side of the Columbia River, and just east of the city of Vancouver, is named after the river that flows into the Columbia. The name means “rushing water” in the Chinook language. Nestled on the west end of the Columbia River Gorge, Washougal is in a beautiful location, with Mt. Hood visible to the east, the Cascade foothills rising in the north, and the Washougal River winding its way through town. 
The Washougal area is full of opportunities for recreational activities, with many parks, the wildlife refuge, the nearby lakes and rivers. There are many perfect spots for one of the area’s most popular pastimes, kayaking. Windsurfing, rafting and fishing are some of the reasons many people live in Washougal or come to visit.
Area attractions that draw lots of visitors every year are nearby Beacon Rock, Skamania Lodge, the Crown Point overlook, and the Bonneville Dam.
