Choosing an adult care home for an elderly family member or for yourself can seem like a confusing, daunting task. If you break the process down into smaller pieces, it will be more manageable. For now, let’s consider evaluating just the physical aspects of an adult family home. Before making a decision, plan to make at least a couple of visits to a home you are considering. 
One of the first things to evaluate is the home’s location. Ask yourself: Is this home in a convenient location? Could your loved ones easily visit you? Is it convenient to run your errands from this location? Could you continue to see your doctor, dentist, hair stylist, and so on?
Look at the environment of the home. Is the temperature comfortable for you? How about the noise level? What kind of furniture does it have? Are there any odor problems? Are things easily accessible? Is the home visually attractive to you?
What about mobility issues? Is it a single level, or are there stairs? Is the home equipped to accommodate wheelchairs and walkers?
What are the room arrangements like? Are the bedrooms private or shared? Are bathrooms shared or individual?
Is the home located in a safe neighborhood? Is the home secure? Is there someone awake all hours? Does the home have a written plan for emergencies and natural disasters?
